Rivers, as a vital component of the Earth's ecosystem, are not only the primary carriers of surface water resources but also the lifeline for human survival and development. However, with the acceleration of industrialization, some factories, due to their geographical proximity to rivers, are posing a continuous threat to water safety due to potential leaks and illegal discharges during their production processes. Excessive levels of key pollutants such as ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, and COD (chemical oxygen demand) not only damage the habitats of aquatic plants and animals but also enter the human body through drinking water and the food chain, causing irreversible damage to health with long-term consumption. Therefore, scientific and systematic measurement of outdoor river water quality has become a necessary measure to safeguard ecological security and public health.

 

From a hydrological perspective, rivers are formed by precipitation or underground springs, flowing along natural depressions under the influence of gravity. They can be classified as inland rivers or outflowing rivers based on their inflow location. Whether an inland river nourishes the inland ecosystem or an outflowing river connects to the ocean, its water quality directly reflects the health of the regional ecosystem. Water quality testing not only enables timely detection of pollution sources but also provides data support for environmental governance. For example, by monitoring parameters such as dissolved oxygen, pH, and turbidity, the self-purification capacity and pollution level of water bodies can be directly assessed.

 

Modern water quality monitoring technologies have undergone intelligent upgrades. For instance, miniature water quality monitoring buoy systems can simultaneously measure multiple indicators, including dissolved oxygen, pH, ORP (oxidation-reduction potential), and conductivity. This system collects sensor data via an RS-485 bus and transmits it wirelessly to a cloud platform, allowing users to view monitoring results in real time via a mobile app. Complete buoy systems can also integrate cameras, GPS positioning, and automatic alarm functions, enabling rapid deployment in monitoring areas without laying cables, and achieving dynamic monitoring of multiple sectors such as aquaculture, industrial wastewater discharge, and agricultural irrigation.

 

Regular testing of river water quality by government departments and enterprises is essentially a fulfillment of public environmental responsibility. Continuously tracking water quality changes can both compel enterprises to implement environmental protection measures and provide a scientific basis for the formulation of watershed management and pollution prevention policies. Only through precise monitoring, timely early warning, and systematic governance can we ensure the sustainable functioning of river ecosystems and make every river a healthy corridor that nourishes life and carries civilization.
